There’s a balance to be had here. Remember, you don’t need to spend hours a day training. 30-45 minutes is enough if done correctly. And Plato, Socrates’ great student said…
“He who is only a student is too weak, too effeminate. He who is only an athlete is too crude, too masculine. The ideal citizen is the scholar-athlete, A man of thought and a man of action.” – Plato, Republic
You know when you see a Dad who has it all. He looks good, is confident, has a great wife, and kids who have great character; you know he feels what his body is capable of, and has the scholar-athlete balance right.
So you see, you must be physically like a warrior, and mentally like a philosopher. And ironically, the best of each were balanced both physically and mentally.
Just go and take a look at the insights from people like Bruce Lee, and Miyamoto Musashi (the legendary Samurai) who were greats in both the body and mind.
2. get your training right to lose the belly
Dads try to train for hours on end, but only need 30-45 minutes.
The key is the right kind of training.
Training is the #1 thing to focus on. Men need action, everything follows from this.
Think about this, do you commonly crave a salad, or something else notably healthy, just because?
Probably not. Instead, we need to trigger the body’s response to crave the right things, by doing what the body was meant to do, to move!
But all movement is not created equally. Bodybuilding, CrossFit, Bootcamp, Olympic Lifting, Yoga, Cycling and so on damage the body too much to be considered healthy forms of training.
So the right movement is key.
The right movement consists of optimising the 4 key human movements, which are standing, walking, running, and throwing.

Now, your mind, and training are right, it’s time to focus on nutrition.
Everyone says ‘Abs are made in the kitchen.‘, meaning to focus on nutrition first.
Abs are made when your belly fat reduces, because your hormones are firing as they should.
For example, your testosterone is high, and your cortisol is just right, so you’ll naturally be leaner, healthier, and stronger.
Or they say that, ‘80% of your fitness journey is nutrition.’
I call this a myth.
Not saying nutrition isn’t important, it is, but training must be the priority, so that your body craves the right foods. Do you see the connection now?
The trick is to get your body consistently craving the right foods by regular movement and training.
Do this every day, and your body will demand nourishing foods from you.
In modern society, we suffer from a lack of self-awareness, a lack of movement, and a lack of nourishment.
So if we fix things in this order, your whole body will transform, and your belly fat will be a distant thing of the past.
